As a tinder that kickstarts his production career, Halfway Crook debuts on Differential with an exceptional soulful EP. The Soul Fever EP cements his status as a long-time connoisseur of the subtle side in drum and bass. Get your sunglasses out and dust off those groovy shoes, as we’re about to get swinging.

We start off with the title track of the EP. The swinging drums and cheerful atmosphere immediately lifts your spirits as you listen to the intro. You’re guided towards the drop with swelling pads, a vhs-style vocal and warm synths. As the drop hits, Halfway Crook turns up the heat and gets you swinging with a bouncy bassline and crispy drums. Once you get caught by the groove, you can’t stop until the end, where you get ready for the second track.

From an uplifting sun soaked groove, to an enchanting atmosphere perfect for twilight sessions, Halfway Crook and EIF take you on a ride with the mysterious cadence of Cinderblocks. With a track that is as warm as it is groovy, Cinderblocks is a unique twist on what we know soulful drum and bass can be. The bobbing bassline and gloomy arp are guided by a cheeky vocal, all in a subtle and flowing manner throughout the track.

The third track is called What U Do Babe and turns up the swing. With drums that roll from beginning to end, this one is perfect for those late night sessions. Combine this with the strong groove from Yves and his bass guitar and the catchy flow is impossible to resist. To top it all off the vocal stabs make sure this will linger in your mind for a long time.

Ending the EP on a high note, Halfway Crook links up once again with EIF, this time also featuring Dustkey on the collab. Whereas he used a lot of synths in the other three tracks, Radio Patapola gets its identity from the joyful electric piano. The upbeat melodies are played over a driving bassline to create an energetic and exciting end to the EP, all accentuated by the old school vocals in the background.

For a debut EP you can’t get much better, with these four tracks Halfway Crook puts out a statement release and sets the bar high for the future. Bringing the summer to your ears and getting you in the mood, the Soul Fever EP will release on Differential August 26th.
